We asked AI what accident victims ask.
In June 2026 we ran the questions Dallas accident victims actually type on Perplexity, one of the major AI answer engines. Three patterns held — and every one is something a firm can act on.
Finding 1
The “best lawyer” answer comes from directories — not your website.
We asked “best personal injury lawyer in Dallas” and 7 of the 10 sources behind the answer were third-party directories and “best of” lists — Super Lawyers, Best Lawyers, Justia, Expertise.com, Lawyers.com, and independent “top 10” articles. The firms AI recommended were the ones those directories already rank. If you’re not in them, you’re not in the answer.
Finding 2
The shortlist is unstable — and ad budget doesn’t buy it.
We changed the question only slightly — from “best personal injury lawyer” to “best car accident lawyer” — and AI returned an entirely different set of attorneys, pulled straight from a single directory’s listings. The firms with the biggest TV and billboard presence in Texas appeared only as cited sources, never in the recommended shortlist. AI rewards the consensus pick across the sources it trusts, not the loudest advertiser.
Finding 3
The research questions are wide open.
We asked “average car accident settlement in Dallas,” and AI cited firm blog posts that simply answered the question well — plus one firm’s video explainer. These are the questions clients ask before “best lawyer,” and most firms publish nothing for them. Answer them clearly and AI cites you at the very start of the client’s journey.
